THE SEMANTIC FIELDS OF ISLAMIC FINANCIAL AND ECONOMIC LEXEMES

Abstrak

The theory of semantic fields contributes to a better understanding of the characteristics and development of vocabulary. With the growth of Is- lamic banking and new research into Islamic economy, the need to inves- tigate the family of related terms becomes a must for concerned bodies. To date, there has not been adequate research to shed light on the sub- semantic fields of Islamic financial and economic terms (IFETs). Hence, the current paper endeavors to group IFETs into semantically related domains. This is achieved through studying the literal and technical sens- es of IFETs sampled from a contemporary specialized Arabic dictionary. The result is the identification of 19 sub-semantic fields.
